In the early 2000s, I was CFO for an operator of exclusive boutique hotels in Barcelona. I always avoided Mallorca as much as I could. Too much Ballermann, too much Magaluf, in short, too much mass tourism meant nothing good could be expected for the island. A dear colleague, a native Mallorcan of Swiss-German descent, heard about it. He invited me to spend a few days in the family's exclusive country hotel, the Reserva Rotana Golf & Wine Resort near Manacor. Great luck! Since then, I've been a huge fan of the island and the Mediterranean ambience, especially in the largely authentic east of the island.
